I grew up in a family of five with two older brothers. My mom was the 'photographer' in our family, so this is a pretty fitting 'family picture' without her in it. Get in the photos, moms! And dads :)
I'm a Midwestern farm kid, growing up around ALL the animals on our farm in Minnesota. This was Spot and me, practicing for the county fair (yep, I was a 4-H'er too!).
I've always been a big theatre nerd! Theatre, band, vocal jazz--you name any pseudo-nerdy thing you can, and I bet I was a part of it. Acting has always been a big love of mine, and at some point I'd love to get back on the stage.
I went straight to photo school at Ridgewater College in MN after high school. I'd known since I was 12 years old what I wanted to do for a living, so I wanted to get there as fast as possible. This was my graduating class, and if you'll notice, all ladies! Yeah girls :)
After photo school, I worked a couple seasons at a Club Med in the Dominican Republic as the resort's photographer. Hardest I've ever worked, and that's saying a lot for a farm kid!
Returning to the States, I went back to school--double majoring in Theatre and English. It was also the era of my love affair with my truck, Daisy. I miss her.
I moved to NYC in 2007. I lived there for 5 years and it's where I started my business and met my husband. Thanks for being so good to me, NY!
This is my sweetheart and I on our wedding day back in 2011. We lived in Brooklyn at the time, but a country wedding felt much more like us than a city one, so we married at a beautiful orchard in the Hudson Valley, 2 hours north of Manhattan. Perfect day, and a perfect week.
Jamie and I moved to Seattle in 2012, excited to transition to a “small town” and slow down our pace from that of New York. Plus go on lots of hikes and lurk in the lush vegetation.
This was easily the happiest I’ve ever been in my life, the moments following the birth of our first son (ok, tied with the birth of his brother). I’m so thankful that we had our friend, Mary Hayes, there to document it and snap this very first image of us all together as a family, along with many other life-changing moments.
My two boys, Leo and Sam. Aren’t they the sweetest? They are my life.
My happy little family. Photo: the wonderful Jenny Wohrle.
